Roxboro is a city in Person County in eastern North Carolina that serves as the administrative center for the region. It covers roughly 7 square miles (18 square kilometers) at an elevation of about 220 meters (720 feet) and sits within the Durham-Chapel Hill Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The city was founded in 1855 and named after Roxburgh in Scotland, reflecting the Scottish roots of its founders. The arrival of railroad lines and the growth of tobacco processing plants transformed it into a regional economic center.
