Columbia Heights

Columbia Heights is a residential neighborhood in Northwest Washington that extends across a large area and contains several lakes. The infrastructure includes the Columbia Heights Metro station and many bus lines that run through the neighborhood.

After the Civil War, the area transformed from farmland into a residential neighborhood and grew rapidly with the streetcar system in the early 1900s. This transportation connection allowed many families to settle here.

The neighborhood has a diverse population visible in the many restaurants and shops along 14th Street and the DC USA mall. Walking through these streets, you see different cuisines and local businesses side by side.

The neighborhood is best explored by metro, with the Columbia Heights station centrally located and providing good connections. Additionally, bus lines serve all parts of the area.

At the border between this neighborhood and Minneapolis, a Polish flag with a white eagle marks the historic center of the Polish-American community. This symbol reminds visitors of the early immigrants who shaped the area.
