Rose–Hulman Institute of Technology, private university in Terre Haute, Indiana, US
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is a private engineering college in Terre Haute focused on science, technology, and mathematics across roughly 1,300 acres. The campus features modern laboratories and academic buildings where about 2,300 students from around the world receive hands-on instruction in specialized facilities.
Founded in 1874 to train workers for railroad construction, the school moved to a larger site in 1917 after the Hulman family made major donations. This expansion set the groundwork for the modern engineering institute that exists today.
The name honors founder Chauncey Rose and the Hulman family, whose donations shaped the school's expansion. Walking the campus, you see more than 90 student clubs, sports teams, and fraternities active daily, creating a tight-knit community where students regularly gather for competitions, volunteer work, and social events.
The campus is designed for walking, with clear pathways connecting different areas, and most students travel on foot or by bike. Parking is available but less necessary since buildings are within easy walking distance and the campus is safe to navigate.
Undergraduates have access to laboratory equipment and workshop spaces normally available only to graduate students at other universities. Student teams regularly build race cars and robots in dedicated workshops and compete in national competitions.
