Afterburner, Steel roller coaster at Fun Spot Amusement Park & Zoo, Angola, Indiana, US.
Afterburner was a steel roller coaster located at Fun Spot Amusement Park & Zoo in Angola, Indiana. The ride featured a launched loop design with a total track length of 635 feet and reached speeds of 45 mph.
Originally called Zoomerang, the coaster opened in 1977 at Circus World before relocating to other parks over the years. It finally settled at Fun Spot Amusement Park in 1991 and operated there until 2008.
The coaster held distinction as the only operating roller coaster with an inversion in Indiana until Steel Hawg opened at Indiana Beach in 2008.
Since the coaster closed in 2008, visitors interested in its history should research the park's layout beforehand to locate where it once stood. Plan a visit to Fun Spot during daylight hours to explore other attractions and enjoy the park grounds.
The ride served as a prototype for Arrow Development's Launched Loop shuttle-style coaster concept. An elevator system was built into the loading platform specifically to provide disabled passengers with access.
