Norwood, Administrative town in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States
Norwood is a town southwest of Boston and stretches along the Neponset River, which flows toward the harbor. The center sits along Route 1, while residential neighborhoods and smaller commercial zones spread on both sides of the main road.
The first settlers built a sawmill along the river in the late 17th century and used the water to run it. The town officially separated from Dedham in 1872 and formed its own municipality.
The name comes from Henry Norwood, a landowner in the 17th century whose family played a role in the early history of the region. Today the town hall carries a bell tower that rings during public events and special occasions.
Most public offices sit in the Memorial Municipal Building near the center. Visitors find information about events and facilities on the municipal website or at the local library.
A pharmaceutical plant on the outskirts produced vaccines on a large scale during the pandemic. The production facility counts among the largest employers in town.
