3 Park Avenue, Office skyscraper in Murray Hill, Manhattan, US

3 Park Avenue is a 41-story office tower standing 556 feet (169 meters) tall with a facade of light-colored bricks that catch the light throughout the day. A paved plaza at ground level provides an open entry area that sits back from the street.

The tower was built in 1975 by the architects Shreve, Lamb & Harmon on a site that had previously held the 71st Regiment armory, demolished during 1960s urban renewal efforts. This construction marked a shift from military to commercial use of the land.

A 23-foot bronze sculpture titled 'Obelisk to Peace' by Irving Marantz has stood at the main entrance on a polished granite base since 1972. The work serves as a visual anchor for people navigating this part of the neighborhood.

The building connects directly to the 33rd Street subway station, providing easy pedestrian access to multiple transit lines without going outside. Twelve elevators inside move people efficiently between the many floors.

Several floors of this office building house educational programs including a well-regarded high school and an arts academy, bringing a school environment into a downtown commercial tower. This blend of classroom and office spaces under one roof is relatively uncommon for the neighborhood.
