Canobie Lake Park, Amusement park in Salem, New Hampshire, United States
Canobie Lake Park is an amusement park in Salem, New Hampshire, spread along the shore of a lake and featuring 85 attractions. The property divides into several sections with roller coasters, family rides, and a water park area called Castaway Island.
The property opened in 1902 as a trolley park designed to draw passengers to the end of a line. Patrick J. Holland purchased it at a 1931 auction originally meant for residential development, preserving it as a leisure destination.
The park takes its name from Canobie Lake, which borders the property along one side. Visitors today see a mix of modern rides and attractions that recall the early days of American amusement parks, drawing multiple generations together.
Tickets for the upcoming season go on sale starting Black Friday, with options available for families and groups. Most rides accommodate different ages, though some have height restrictions for younger children.
The wooden Yankee Cannonball roller coaster from 1936 received ACE Roller Coaster Landmark status from American Coaster Enthusiasts in 2013. Stephen King photographed the Mine of Lost Souls dark ride in 2012 for his novel Joyland, bringing the park into his fiction.
