Moffat Library, Library building in Washingtonville, United States
Moffat Library is a red brick building in Queen Anne style with Greek columns and elaborate stained glass windows throughout. Inside, there is an auditorium with seating for about 375 people and collections that visitors can browse.
David Moffat commissioned this building in 1885, choosing the site of his childhood in Washingtonville. The construction combined skilled craftsmanship with architectural design that was typical of the period.
The library reflects the community values of the late 1800s and serves as a gathering place for neighbors. The space with its auditorium and artistic details has long been where people from the area come together.
The building sits at the intersection of NY 208 and NY 94, making it easy to locate. The library reopened in 2017 after major repairs, so the facilities are modern and well maintained.
The building houses two special glass artworks: a window by Louis Comfort Tiffany and a mosaic glass window by Belcher, both added after the original construction. These artworks are rare examples of handcrafted glass art from that period.
