Triangle Metro Zoo, Zoo in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
Triangle Metro Zoo was a facility spread across about 40 acres of wooded land with natural animal habitats and a creek running through it. The zoo displayed numerous species including large cats, primates, birds, and other exotic animals in their designed environments.
The facility opened in 1998 under the name Zoo Fauna and later adopted its new identity. It operated for about eight years before closing in 2006.
The name comes from the three cities of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill that form the regional triangle. Local families and school groups regularly visited it as a destination in their area.
The location was set in a wooded area with natural pathways connecting the different habitats. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and bring weather protection to explore the entire grounds effectively.
One of the most notable residents was a Bengal tiger named Raja. After the zoo closed, he was relocated to a wildlife conservation facility where he found a new home.
