John A. Latsch State Park, State park with Mississippi River views in Winona County, United States

John A. Latsch State Park is a natural preserve in Winona County with views of the Mississippi River. The land features steep bluffs, dense forests, and a short hiking path with numerous steps leading upward.

The site was established as a preserve in 1925 by someone dedicated to conservation. This early protection effort reflected a broader movement to save Minnesota's natural areas.

The name honors a conservationist who worked to protect this landscape for future generations. Walking through the park, you feel the weight of that dedication to preservation.

The hiking trail requires no vehicle permit to enter the park. Wear comfortable shoes for the steep climb with many steps.

The park provides access to Whitman Dam, where you can watch migrating birds that move along the river seasonally. Visiting at the right time of year offers chances to see large numbers of birds passing through.
