Great River Bluffs State Park

Located high above the Mississippi River, this 2,100-acre state park contains towering limestone bluffs reaching 500 feet above the water level.

Since its establishment in 1971, the park has protected native prairie remnants and hardwood forests along the Mississippi River in southeastern Minnesota.

The park connects visitors to indigenous heritage through interpretive programs about Native American communities who first inhabited these Mississippi River bluffs.

The park maintains 31 drive-in campsites equipped with modern facilities, plus 6 miles of hiking trails and 9 miles of cross-country skiing paths.

The rare dry bedrock bluff prairies within the park host specialized plant species adapted to thin soils and extreme temperature variations.
