Mount Norwottuck, Mountain summit in Massachusetts, US
Mount Norwottuck rises 1,106 feet above sea level, featuring steep cliffs and rocky outcrops formed from ancient basalt formations in the Holyoke Range.
Professor Edward Hitchcock from Amherst College named the peak after the Native American term Norwottuck, which referred to the village of Hadley.
The Horse Caves beneath the summit served as shelter locations during Shays' Rebellion, marking an important period in Massachusetts history.
The Metacomet-Monadnock Trail and Robert Frost Trail provide access to the summit through multiple routes starting from the Notch Visitors Center.
The mountain contains specific microclimates between its hot upper slopes and cool ravines, supporting plant species uncommon in other parts of Massachusetts.
