Lac qui Parle State Park, Nature reserve in Watson, Minnesota, US
Lac qui Parle State Park is a nature-focused park in Minnesota with lakes and river shorelines. The grounds feature about 6 miles of trails along water and open forest areas where visitors can observe birds and other wildlife.
The park was established in 1959 and honors the heritage of Dakota peoples who shaped this region. French fur traders gave the area its name, 'lake that speaks', reflecting the Dakota presence they encountered.
The park shares the heritage of Dakota peoples through programs that connect visitors with local traditions and knowledge of the land. Walking here, you learn how communities adapted to this environment and what the place means to them.
The park offers easy access to campsites with electrical hookups and facilities like hot showers and restrooms. Visitors who want to fish can use several boat launch areas along the water.
Thousands of geese gather at the lake during migration seasons, creating large congregations in spring and fall. This spectacle draws photographers and wildlife watchers from across the region.
