Established in 1869, this church initially served French-speaking residents of New York City with substantial funding from Bishop Charles Auguste Marie Joseph.
The church played a central role during World War I as a gathering point for French soldiers and expatriates residing in New York City.
The church building includes a Geo. Kilgen & Son pipe organ from 1937, containing 40 registers that enhance musical performances during religious ceremonies.
In 1944, more than one thousand French exiles assembled at the church for a mass dedicated to D-Day operations in France.
