Pollock-Krasner House and Studio, Art studio and residence in Springs, East Hampton, United States.
The Pollock-Krasner House and Studio is a wooden residence with a converted barn studio in Springs, situated on a large property near Accobonac Creek. The buildings served as the creative home for this artist couple and display the working spaces they shared.
The couple purchased the property in 1945 with help from Peggy Guggenheim, a prominent art patron, using their artworks as collateral. The location became the center of their artistic output for the decades that followed.
The studio floor preserves traces of Pollock's painting method with drips and marks, while the walls show evidence of how Krasner worked on her own creations.
The site is open from May through October with guided tours available Thursday through Sunday at different times. It is best to check ahead for tour availability and dress appropriately for changing weather conditions.
The artist covered the floors of both buildings in the early 1950s with plywood sheets after receiving material from his brother. This unconventional surface treatment remains a distinctive feature of the rooms today.
