Charles Scribner's Sons Building

Charles Scribner's Sons Building is a ten-story limestone structure on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. The ground level displays a three-part storefront with black and gold details, while the roofline features a copper-edged mansard crown.

Architect Ernest Flagg designed the building between 1912 and 1913 as the headquarters for Charles Scribner's Sons publishing company. It marked a period of growth for American publishing in the early twentieth century.

The building served as a meeting place for writers and publishers who gathered here to discuss their works and advance their careers. The space connects the story of American publishing with the literary life of New York in a tangible way.

The building stands on Fifth Avenue between 48th and 49th Streets and is easy to spot from the street. The ground-level storefront allows views inside, even though the structure now houses different tenants.

The limestone facade is decorated at the fourth level with medallions displaying portraits of notable printers. Benjamin Franklin is among the figures whose image was carved into these decorative elements.
