30th Street Bridge, Road bridge in Troy Hill, Pittsburgh, United States
The 30th Street Bridge is a steel girder structure that spans the Allegheny River between Troy Hill and Washington's Landing. It provides two lanes for vehicles and allows river traffic to pass beneath it.
The bridge was constructed in 1986 as the fourth structure to occupy this location. It replaced three earlier crossings that included wooden, arch, and truss designs built since the 1800s.
This crossing links residential neighborhoods on either side of the river, serving as an everyday passage for people who live and work in the northern parts of the city. It reflects how Pittsburgh's many bridges weave separate communities into a connected whole.
The bridge is open to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic, making it easy to cross on foot or by car. The viewing areas along the sides offer good spots to pause and look at the river below.
The structure underwent a major renovation in 2023 that included a new deck surface, updated lighting, and modern railings. This work gave the older structure a refreshed and safer appearance.
