Old Armstrong Chapel, Methodist chapel in The Village of Indian Hill, US
Old Armstrong Chapel is a Methodist chapel in The Village of Indian Hill built in 1831 from local clay materials, featuring a rectangular brick structure with a front tower. The original building still stands alongside a newer structure from 2010 that serves expanded congregation needs.
Nathaniel Armstrong donated the land in 1830 after the community had been gathering in private homes for Methodist worship. The building was constructed in 1831 and marked the beginning of an organized religious gathering place for the group.
The cemetery next to the chapel holds gravestones from the 1800s with hand-carved stone designs showing symbols like weeping willows and other folk motifs. These carvings tell the stories of the people buried there.
The chapel remains an active United Methodist congregation and welcomes visitors during worship hours. The older building can be viewed from outside, while the newer 2010 structure serves as the main gathering place for services.
The original brick structure has remained remarkably stable for over a century, settling barely any measurable amount. This exceptional durability is noteworthy for a building from the early 1800s.
