Baltimore & Annapolis Trail, Rail trail between Annapolis and Glen Burnie, Maryland.
The Baltimore & Annapolis Trail is a paved pathway that runs between two Maryland communities and connects various neighborhoods along the way. The route follows an old railroad bed through residential and urban areas, creating a linear park for pedestrians and cyclists.
The trail follows the route of the Annapolis and Baltimore Short Line Railroad, which started operations in 1887 and became an electric railway in the early 1900s. This transition made travel between the two cities faster and more reliable for residents.
The trail features educational displays called Planet Walk that show a scale model of the solar system with scientific information about each celestial body. Visitors encounter these displays naturally as they walk, making learning part of the journey itself.
The trail has parking areas at multiple locations including Sawmill Creek Park and Dixon Observation Park for convenient access. Restrooms and food options are available at various points near the communities along the route.
The path is marked with twenty-six historical markers labeled A through Z that point to local achievements and important locations. These markers guide visitors to discover specific stories and places in the communities connected by the trail.
