Bel Air Armory, arsenaal in Maryland, Verenigde Staten van Amerika
The Bel Air Armory is a fortress-like arsenal built in 1915 from dark gray Port Deposit granite with two towered sections. The main structure has a T-shaped layout with a front section containing five bays of tall windows and a long Event Hall at the rear, topped with crenellations and flagpoles.
Built in 1915 for the Maryland Army National Guard, the structure served as a training and command center for military units during the World Wars. The town acquired it in 2004 and began restoration efforts that transformed it from an abandoned military facility into a working community hub.
The armory serves as a gathering place where residents celebrate and connect throughout the year. Local events like the Garden Mart in May and holiday gift sales showcase community traditions and support for local artists and makers who display their work at the site.
The armory sits in the downtown center of Bel Air, easily accessible from shops and restaurants in the Arts and Entertainment District. The site has accessible ramps and pathways that accommodate visitors with strollers or wheelchairs, making it convenient for everyone to explore the building and surrounding marketplace.
The old military garages behind the building have been repurposed as retail shops and startup spaces for local entrepreneurs. Few visitors realize these converted structures once housed military vehicles and now serve as incubators for new local businesses and economic growth.
