Badger Army Ammunition Plant, Military ammunition production facility in Sumpter, Wisconsin, US
The Badger Army Ammunition Plant covers 10,500 acres of Sauk prairie land, featuring numerous manufacturing buildings connected by 24 miles of railroad tracks.
The facility, constructed in 1942 following President Roosevelt's authorization, manufactured nitrocellulose propellants for World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War operations.
The Ho-Chunk Nation maintains strong connections to this land, which their ancestors inhabited since the last ice age before Euro-American settlement in the 1840s.
The Badger History Group provides guided tours of the museum, collecting documents, photographs, and artifacts that detail the plant's manufacturing operations.
The site transformation includes the Great Sauk State Trail along former railroad tracks, while parts serve the USDA Dairy Forage Research Center's agricultural studies.
