Beech Fork Lake, reservoir in Wayne County, West Virginia, United States
Beech Fork Lake is a reservoir in West Virginia that covers approximately 720 acres and is fed by Millers Fork and Stowers Branch streams. The water is surrounded by hardwood forests and offers areas for boating, fishing, and camping throughout the year.
The reservoir was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the 1970s and completed in 1978 to control flooding in the region. The project required some landowners to relocate from areas that became part of the water management system.
The lake has two boat ramps and a private marina for visitors with their own boats. There is also a special pond for children to catch trout and learn to fish.
The area was once known as the Bean Capital of the World because farmers grew beans there on a large scale. Today visitors can see traces of this past, including old cemeteries and Civil War graves that reflect families who lived there for generations.
