Bishop Kearney High School, Catholic school building in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, US
Bishop Kearney High School was a four-story brick building in Brooklyn that housed classrooms, science laboratories, computer labs, and specialized learning spaces. Class sizes averaged around 30 students per classroom throughout its operation.
The school was founded in 1961 by the Sisters of St. Joseph and operated as an all-girls institution until closing in 2019. For nearly six decades, it served the educational needs of the neighborhood.
The school served as a gathering place for young women from the neighborhood and fostered values of community service and personal growth alongside academics. Many graduates maintained lasting connections to their classmates and the institution throughout their lives.
The school building is located in an established residential neighborhood with good public transportation access. The facility closed to educational activities, but the structure remains visible as a landmark in the community.
The school earned accreditation from the Middle States Association in 1966, a significant achievement for educational institutions of that era. The establishment of its Mater Dei chapter of the National Honor Society in 1979 reflected the school's commitment to academic excellence.
