Blanchette Memorial Bridge, Road bridge in St. Louis County, Missouri.
The Blanchette Memorial Bridge is a road bridge crossing the Missouri River in Missouri and connects St. Charles with St. Louis County. It consists of two parallel spans running side by side over the water to carry traffic in both directions.
The bridge opened in 1958 to provide a new crossing over the river. A second span was added in 1979 to handle significantly increased traffic volumes.
The structure bears the name of Louis Blanchette, a French Canadian fur trader who established the settlement of St. Charles along the Missouri River.
The best way to reach the bridge is via Interstate 70, which runs directly over the structure. The bridge is not designed for pedestrians to walk across, so vehicle use is required.
The bridge underwent a major transformation in 1979 when a second span replaced the initial two-lane configuration to meet increasing traffic demands.
