Buhl Planetarium and Institute of Popular Science Building, Science education center in Allegheny Center, Pittsburgh, United States.
The Buhl Planetarium features an octagonal copper dome, a 65-foot diameter inner dome, and a Theater of the Stars accommodating 425 visitors.
The facility opened in October 1939 with a construction cost of 1.07 million dollars, becoming one of the first public buildings with air conditioning.
The planetarium established the Pittsburgh Regional School Science and Engineering Fair, which became the oldest regional science fair in the United States.
The building now operates as part of the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, maintaining its original Foucault Pendulum in the Great Hall.
The facility contained a Zeiss Mark II Projector with 106 lenses capable of producing 9000 star images through German engineering.
