Carnegie Free Library of Allegheny, Public library in Allegheny Center, Pittsburgh, US.
The Carnegie Free Library building features red and grey granite construction with Romanesque Revival architectural elements throughout its exterior and interior spaces.
Commissioned in 1886 by Andrew Carnegie, this library became the first Carnegie-funded library in the United States, opening its doors to the public in 1890.
The building houses the first Carnegie Music Hall in the United States, which continues to present performances and educational programs for the community.
Following relocation due to lightning damage, the facility now operates from Federal Street with modern amenities including public computers and wireless internet access.
President Benjamin Harrison attended the library's inauguration ceremony, marking the beginning of Carnegie's worldwide library construction initiative.
