Carroll County Court House, courthouse in Ossipee, Carroll County, New Hampshire
The Carroll County Court House is a brick courthouse in Colonial Revival style located in Ossipee, New Hampshire. The structure features two main wings connected by a smaller central section, with characteristic hipped roofs and a prominent triangular gable at the front supported by Doric columns.
The courthouse was built in 1916 after an earlier courthouse from 1839 was destroyed by fire in 1915. Architect Albert H. Dow from the nearby area designed the replacement building, which served as the active courthouse until 2004 when court operations moved to a newer facility.
The building's name reflects its role as the heart of the community for decades. Locals still view it as an important landmark that reminds them of a time when county business centered on this single location.
The building sits on Courthouse Square in Ossipee near Old Route 28 and Browns Ridge Road. The Ossipee Historical Society maintains the structure, so it is best to inquire ahead about access and availability before planning a visit.
The building was expanded in 1960 to add more office space for county administration, yet this enlargement left its classic exterior unchanged. Despite these internal modifications, it gained recognition on the National Register of Historic Places.
