Carolina Actors Studio Theatre, Performing arts center in Charlotte, US
Carolina Actors Studio Theatre is a performing arts center with three separate theater spaces, each featuring different stage arrangements. The spaces offer various configurations, including a stage surrounded by seating and a stage at the end of the room.
The venue was founded in 1992 by acting teacher Ed Gilweit as a school for training performers. It later transformed into a professional theater that mounted new productions regularly.
The venue brings performers and spectators close together through its distinctive stage layouts that remove distance between them. Visitors experience performances where physical proximity creates an immediate connection with the actors.
The venue sits on North Davidson Street and features dressing rooms, storage areas, and workshops for scenery construction. Arriving early gives you time to find parking and explore the building before performances begin.
The final performance took place in 2014, ending an eight-year period with about 64 productions. This chapter of the house closed after years of intensive theater work and numerous local shows.
