Spectrum Center, Sports arena in Charlotte, United States
Spectrum Center is a multipurpose arena in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a curved outer facade and seating for over 19,000 people across several tiers. The venue is designed for basketball games, concerts, and other large events, with modern scoreboards and seating areas.
The arena opened in 2005 after three years of construction and replaced the older Charlotte Coliseum as the city's main sports venue. Several sponsor names have marked the building over the years, until it received its current name in 2016.
Artworks inside the building recall Charlotte's past as a center of textile production and banking. On game nights for the home basketball team, the seats fill with fans who gather here to support their players.
The entrance sits just two blocks east of the Trade and Tryon intersection and is easily reached by the city light rail. Inside, there are several food stands, so visitors can grab something to eat before or during an event.
The building uses water-saving systems and LED lighting to reduce energy use. Throughout the venue, there are bins for recycling waste collected during events.
