Charlotte, Financial center in North Carolina, United States

Charlotte is a financial center in North Carolina and the second largest banking hub in America after New York City. Tall buildings such as the Bank of America Corporate Center and the Duke Energy Center shape the skyline and mark the business heart of the region with their visible presence.

The city was founded in 1768 and named after Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, at a crossing of old Native American trading paths. Over the centuries it grew from a small settlement into a major economic center of the American South.

The NASCAR Hall of Fame, the Discovery Place science exhibits, and the Mint Museum draw visitors from across North Carolina and neighboring states. These institutions shape the cultural life of the area and offer perspectives on motorsport, science, and art history that many travelers find compelling enough to explore the region.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport connects the city with 178 destinations worldwide, while the LYNX Blue Line light rail offers connections within the metropolitan area. For visitors it is advisable to use the central location of the airport and the public transport network to reach different parts of town.

The United States National Whitewater Center offers the largest man-made whitewater river system in the world on a site of around 1,300 acres (526 hectares). This facility enables rafting and other outdoor activities year-round and attracts both beginners and experienced athletes from many regions.
