112 Tryon Plaza, Art Deco office building in downtown Charlotte, United States
112 Tryon Plaza is a 22-story Art Deco office building located at the corner of Trade Street and Tryon Street in downtown Charlotte. Its facade rises with vertical lines and decorative details typical of office towers built in that architectural style.
The building was put up in 1926 by First National Bank and was at the time the second tallest structure in North Carolina. For more than three decades it held the title of Charlotte's tallest building, shaping the city's skyline through a long period of growth.
The original bank lobby on the ground floor still has its ornate materials, showing how financial institutions of the 1920s used design to project trust and stability. Walking through the entrance today, visitors can see decorative details that were carefully chosen to impress clients a century ago.
The building stands at one of downtown Charlotte's most central intersections and is easy to spot on foot from several directions. Those wanting to see the exterior can do so while walking through the business district without any special arrangements.
This is the only office condominium available for purchase in Charlotte's Uptown district, a setup that stands apart from every other comparable building nearby. In an area where office space is almost always rented, owning a unit here is a rarity that few people associate with this part of the city.
