Church of the Ascension
Church of the Ascension, Anglican church in Shadyside, Pittsburgh, United States
The Church of the Ascension is an Anglican church building in Shadyside featuring Late Gothic Revival architectural details. The structure sits at the intersection of Ellsworth Avenue and Neville Street and displays characteristic elements of this architectural style.
The cornerstone was laid on July 4, 1897, under the supervision of Reverend R. W. Grange, and the church was then dedicated on December 30, 1898. This founding phase in the 1890s marks when this place was established.
The church serves as a gathering place for the neighborhood and reflects Anglican traditions that remain visible in weekly meetings today. Regular services and community events shape the rhythm of the place and show how people spend time here together.
The building can be visited at different times depending on when public activities take place. It is helpful to check beforehand when something is happening so you do not make a wasted trip.
During the 1930s and 1940s, the place was known for its professional men and boys choir that regularly led morning services. This musical tradition made the church a special place during that time.
