Coldwater Lake State Park

Coldwater Lake State Park is a 400-acre recreation area featuring hardwood forests, wetlands, and native grasslands along the lake's southern shore. The undeveloped landscape creates diverse habitats that support local wildlife populations.

The park was established in 1987 by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources as a way to expand public access to natural areas. The creation was funded through Natural Resources Trust Funds and reflected the state's commitment to outdoor recreation.

The park serves as Branch County's sole public hunting ground, maintaining regional outdoor traditions and connecting residents with local natural resources.

The park has unpaved parking areas with walking access to trails and natural features, and visitors need a Recreation Passport to enter. Weather and seasonal conditions affect path accessibility, so check ahead before planning a visit.

The park sits at 981 feet of elevation and developed across former farmland, creating varied ecosystems within a small space. This topography supports different plant and animal species that might not typically coexist in flatter terrain nearby.
