Cog Hill Golf & Country Club, golf course and country club in Illinois, US
Cog Hill Golf & Country Club is a golf facility near Chicago, Illinois, with four courses designed for players of all skill levels. The most famous course, Dubsdread, is known for its challenging design featuring long holes, deep bunkers, and undulating greens, and ranks among the country's best public golf courses.
The club was founded in 1927 by three brothers named John, Martin, and Bert Coghill who wanted to make golf accessible to city dwellers without private club membership. Dubsdread, the most famous course, opened in 1964 and later became home to major tournaments including the Western Open and the BMW Championship.
The name comes from the Coghill brothers who founded the club in the 1920s to make golf accessible to everyday players without requiring private club membership. Today, it remains a gathering place where golfers of all skill levels come together to play and connect with the sport.
The club operates year-round, including during colder months, with heated driving stalls and advanced Toptracer technology for practice. A learning center, two golf shops, a restaurant with outdoor seating, and a large event hall accommodating more than 200 guests provide additional amenities for various visitor needs.
Tiger Woods shot a record score of 62 here in 2009, one of the finest public course rounds ever recorded. This remarkable achievement demonstrates the exceptional quality and challenge the course presents to professional players.
