Conanicut Island Light

Conanicut Island Light is a lighthouse on an island in Rhode Island featuring a square tower and attached two-story keeper's house. The residence displays Gothic Revival design with a steeply pitched roof and brick construction.

The structure was built in 1886 with Congressional funding to aid ferry routes between Newport and Wickford. It was deactivated in 1933 as maritime traffic patterns changed.

The lighthouse appeared in the 2012 film Moonrise Kingdom, where filmmakers used it as a residence in the story. This connection to cinema has brought the structure additional recognition beyond its maritime purpose.

The lighthouse stands at the northern end of the island and functions as a private home not open for visits inside. Plan to view it from outside the property since it remains privately owned.

The original light used a fifth-order lens in its lantern room and operated a compressed-air fog siren. This siren produced constant sounds during thick fog to warn ships at sea.
