The Coolidge Estate features a 24-room Georgian mansion with 14 bedrooms, six fireplaces, and hand-carved wood paneling across 571 acres of land.
Built in 1921 for John L. Saltonstall, the estate later belonged to William A. Coolidge before being inherited by Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1992.
The estate incorporates architectural elements from the 1790 Nathaniel Saltonstall house and includes landscaping by the Frederick Law Olmsted firm.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Essex County Greenbelt Association maintain development restrictions to preserve the natural environment of the estate.
The property contains more than one mile of frontage along the Ipswich River and stands as one of Massachusetts's largest privately held conservation areas.
