Daniel Billmeyer House, Federal house in Mount Airy, Philadelphia, United States.
The Daniel Billmeyer House is a two-part residential building with Federal architecture in Mount Airy, Philadelphia. The older section dates from 1730, while the second section was added around 1793.
The building was originally constructed by Michael Billmeyer, a printer, for his son Daniel. During the Battle of Germantown in 1777, it served as a shelter for British troops.
The house shows how prosperous families of that era lived and arranged their homes. The style reflects how craftspeople and merchants in Germantown shaped their own buildings.
The house is located within the Colonial Germantown Historic District on Germantown Avenue and can be viewed from the outside. The location is walkable and part of a neighborhood with several other historic buildings from this period.
The renowned architect Walter Cope later chose this house as his personal residence. His decision shows how the quality and design of the building were highly valued.
