The Daniel LeRoy House is a three-and-a-half-story brick building on St. Marks Place with a marble entrance and decorative cornices. Its facade displays the balanced proportions and refined details typical of Federal-era architecture.
Built in 1832, the house served as both residence and business location for merchant Daniel LeRoy. It was constructed as part of a development project that transformed this section of the neighborhood.
The house shows what wealthy merchant families valued in their homes during the early 1800s. You can see how they chose fine materials and decorative details that displayed their status.
The building is located on St. Marks Place in the East Village and is easily viewed from the street. Access to the area is straightforward with good pedestrian pathways and nearby subway stops.
Only two other houses from the original Davis development survive on this block today. This rarity makes it a valuable reminder of how the street looked more than a century ago.
