Discovery Center at Murfree Spring, Educational museum and environmental center in Murfreesboro, United States
The Discovery Center at Murfree Spring is a museum and environmental education facility in Murfreesboro located on a converted water treatment site. The grounds span 20 acres of wetland habitat with both indoor learning spaces and outdoor trails that wind through the natural landscape.
The facility began as Discovery House in 1986 before relocating in 1996 to a former water treatment plant site through a city partnership. This move transformed an industrial area into a space dedicated to environmental education and natural habitat restoration.
The center connects hands-on nature activities with learning, allowing visitors to engage directly with local wildlife and wetland ecosystems. These encounters create memorable moments of discovery that link people to the natural world around them.
The center is open on weekdays and weekends with extended hours, making it accessible for different visit schedules. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for outdoor conditions, as much of the experience takes place on trails and in the wetland environment.
The wetland is home to Tennessee's largest population of a rare aquatic plant species found in the marsh. This botanical feature makes the site an important location for conservation of this plant variety.
