The East Washington Historic District spans 36.5 acres, encompassing North, East, and Wade Avenues, along with Wheeling, Beau, and Chestnut Streets.
The Washington County History & Landmarks Foundation designated 120 Victorian houses as a historic district in 1984, adding them to the National Register of Historic Places.
The district exhibits Colonial Revival, Queen Anne, and Shingle Style architecture, representing late 19th-century residential construction methods and designs.
Washington & Jefferson College owns approximately 30 properties within the district boundaries, maintaining a significant presence in the neighborhood.
A 140-year-old farmhouse from 137 South Wade Street underwent relocation in 1977 after the college acquired the property during its expansion.
