The Burnett Center, Academic building at Washington & Jefferson College, Pennsylvania, United States
The Burnett Center is a three-story building containing 57,000 square feet of educational space with granite, limestone, slate, and copper exterior materials. Inside are twelve multimedia classrooms, several circular seminar rooms, computer laboratories, and an auditorium seating 84 people.
The center is named after former President Howard J. Burnett and opened in 2001 as a major academic expansion for the college. This project represented an important investment in the institution's educational infrastructure.
The building incorporates cast iron fleur-de-lis balusters salvaged from an earlier dormitory, linking contemporary design with the college's architectural past. These elements tell the story of how the campus honors its heritage while moving forward.
The building is easy to locate and well-integrated into the campus with clear pathways and access points. The fountain plaza outside serves as a gathering space and is readily accessible on foot from other college areas.
The central atrium features vertical ribbon windows and cherry wood trim that create a warm, open feeling inside. This interior design contrasts notably with the solid exterior appearance of the building.
