Eastern High School, University building in Baltimore, US
The Eastern High School building stands on East 33rd Street, featuring three corner towers and detailed cornice work in Italian Villa style.
Established in 1844, Eastern High School operated as Baltimore's first female public high school until its closure in 1986, when Johns Hopkins acquired the property.
The institution marked a milestone in women's education by appointing Laura J. Cairnes as Baltimore's first female high school principal in 1924.
The building underwent extensive renovations in the 1990s to accommodate office spaces for Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions staff and departments.
During World War II, students at Eastern High School generated over $200,000 through bond and stamp sales to support the war effort.
