Eustace Hall, Historic university building in East Lansing, Michigan.
Eustace Hall is a three-story building on the Michigan State University campus that blends Queen Anne, Richardsonian Romanesque, and Shingle Style elements. Its exterior features red brick with stone accents, creating a facade shaped by multiple architectural traditions.
The building was constructed in 1888 as a horticultural laboratory and housed the university's horticulture department until 1924. After serving various functions for decades, it underwent a major renovation in the late 1900s and took on a new role.
The building honors an alumnus and his wife who supported it through a major gift. Today it serves as home to advanced academic programs, showing how older structures adapt to new educational purposes.
The building is located on the Laboratory Row section of campus and is relatively easy to locate. Be aware that it is an active academic building, so access may be limited to certain times or areas.
It is the only building on the entire Michigan State University campus that has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places. This recognition highlights its importance as a historical landmark among the many modern structures on campus.
