Fenwick Club Annex, arena in de Verenigde Staten
The Fenwick Club Annex is a three-story building with Victorian architecture in Cincinnati, Ohio, constructed as an addition to an existing clubhouse structure. Its facade features decorative windows, gables, and ornamental details characteristic of early 1900s design, sitting on a stone foundation with brick and terracotta elements.
The original Fenwick Club was founded in 1915 and expanded rapidly, leading to the construction of this annex in 1921 to accommodate growing membership numbers. The Chapel of the Holy Spirit was added nearby in 1927, and the annex was officially recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
The Fenwick Club Annex served as a gathering place for unmarried Catholic men in the community who sought fellowship and social activities with others of their faith. The building housed sports facilities, a library, and event spaces where members came together to spend time and build connections.
The building is located in an easily accessible area near other historic sites such as Wesley Chapel and Allen Temple AME Church. Access to the neighborhood is straightforward, and it can be visited as part of exploring the broader historic district or taking guided tours of the area.
The building was demolished in 1979, despite receiving official historic recognition in 1973, illustrating how structures can be lost even after formal designation. This gap between recognition and preservation highlights the challenges faced in protecting valuable historic architecture in urban areas.
