Fourth & Walnut Center, Chicago School skyscraper in Downtown Cincinnati, United States
Fourth & Walnut Center is a 19-story steel-frame skyscraper with large plate glass windows in downtown Cincinnati. The building displays characteristic Chicago School features with its modern skeletal structure and plain, functional facade.
The building was completed in 1904 by D.H. Burnham & Company and was then the tallest structure in Ohio. It held this status until 1913 when another tower surpassed it.
The building once housed trading and manufacturing offices that shaped downtown business life. Today visitors can observe the broad windows and open floor plans that were typical of office buildings from this era.
The building is located at East 4th Street and is easily reached from Walnut Street. Multiple elevators provide access throughout the different levels, making navigation straightforward for visitors.
The building was formerly called Clopay Building, named after clothing and paper businesses that occupied its lower floors. This industrial past remains visible today in the structure and layout of the spaces.
