Krippendorf-Dittman Company
Krippendorf-Dittman Company, Historic shoe factory building in Cincinnati, United States.
The Krippendorf-Dittman Company building is a former shoe factory with late Victorian architectural elements, designed by Samuel Hannaford & Sons and Louis Picket. It has been converted and now houses luxury loft apartments called Sycamore Place, while the ground floor offers retail spaces and an art gallery.
The building was established as a shoe manufacturing facility in the late 1800s and remained a significant production center through the early 1900s. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and later repurposed to prevent its decline.
The ground floor gallery displays contemporary art and connects the building to the University of Cincinnati's design school. Visitors can see how a former factory space now serves as an exhibition venue for local artistic work.
The building is easily accessible on foot and located in a central area with nearby parking to serve gallery and retail visitors. The best time to visit is during regular business and gallery hours, when the spaces are active and the contrast between historic architecture and modern life becomes apparent.
The name Sycamore Place refers to the sycamore trees that once defined this industrial neighborhood. This historic connection to nature reveals how the area looked before its time as a factory site.
