Fidelity Building

The Fidelity Building is a 15-floor high-rise with a grey granite facade located on North Charles Street in downtown Baltimore. It features rounded arches and hand-crafted stone details that define the Romanesque Revival style of its period.

Architects Baldwin and Pennington designed this building in 1894 for the Fidelity and Deposit Company. Seven additional floors were added between 1912 and 1915 as the company expanded its operations.

The building displays late 19th-century architectural choices that brought European medieval design into the American commercial world. These influences remain visible in its rounded arches and elaborate stonework, shaping how the structure reads today.

The building is currently being transformed into 220 residential units with ground-level retail spaces. Be aware that ongoing renovation work may affect access to the exterior and your ability to view all architectural details.

The structure survived the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904, which destroyed surrounding buildings and demonstrated the durability of its granite and stone construction. This resilience remains evident in the details you see today.
