Hà Đông, Urban district in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Hà Đông is an urban district in western Hanoi that covers 17 wards and spreads across roughly 50 square kilometers. The district sits several kilometers from the historic core of the capital and forms an important part of the growing metropolis.
The district served as the capital of Hà Tây province until 2009, when a reform merged it into Hanoi proper. This incorporation connected it with the expanding capital region and changed its administrative status.
In Vạn Phúc settlement, craftspeople weave silk using methods their ancestors developed centuries ago, and visitors can watch the process. The workshops sit along narrow lanes where the clatter of wooden looms comes through open doorways and finished cloth hangs to dry.
Several bus lines connect the district with central Hanoi, and a metro line cuts travel time considerably. Most streets are easy to navigate, and you will find cafés and small shops throughout where you can orient yourself or rest.
Đồng Nội Lake sits in the middle of the district and serves residents as a meeting point for morning exercise and evening conversation. The shore is ringed with paved paths where people walk or sit on benches watching the activity.
