Hai Bà Trưng

Hai Ba Trung is an urban district in central Hanoi with mixed residential neighborhoods and established living spaces. The area comprises several smaller administrative divisions that together form a vibrant inner-city community.

The name comes from two sisters who rebelled against Chinese occupation in the 1st century and remain symbols of freedom today. A memorial structure from the 12th century honors their resistance and their impact on Vietnamese history.

The two Trung Sisters, for whom the district is named, remain present in daily life and are revered by residents. Small shrines and local gatherings throughout the area reflect how these figures are woven into Vietnamese identity.

The area is well served by public buses that run throughout the day and evening, offering connections to other parts of the city. Pedestrians can navigate through established streets and find many small shops and services within walking distance.

Hom Market sits at the heart of the district and is among Hanoi's oldest markets, where vendors sell fresh goods, fabrics, and other products daily. The marketplace has endured for more than a century and reflects the traditional trading culture of the city.
