Vĩnh Tuy Bridge, Box girder bridge in Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi, Vietnam
The Vĩnh Tuy Bridge is a concrete structure spanning the Red River, connecting Hai Ba Trung District with Long Bien District in Hanoi. It stretches roughly 3.7 kilometers (2.3 miles) with six automobile lanes supported by reinforced steel framework.
Construction began in 2005 and was completed in 2010, marking a significant step in Hanoi's transportation development. A second phase finished in 2023, restructuring how traffic flows across the bridge.
Locals use this bridge for morning jogs and bike rides, often stopping to watch the Red River flowing beneath while getting exercise. It has become a natural gathering spot for residents seeking activity in the open air.
The bridge handles heavy traffic daily, so it is best crossed during off-peak hours when possible. Pedestrians and cyclists can use it, making it a practical route for multiple types of transportation.
After the second phase was finished in 2023, the bridge was converted to one-way traffic flowing only from Long Bien toward Hai Ba Trung District. This change improved traffic management across this congested section of the city.
